Ashdod City Tour

Like many of the cities in Israel (although not all of them), Ashdod is thousands of years old. In antiquity it was one of five cities in the hands of the Philistines (Israel’s Biblical enemy). They used Ashdod a port city to trade with the international world. The city was a small port city and fortress for the Crusaders as well.

The new Israeli Air Force won a major victory over Egypt in Ashdod in 1948. It was this battle that stopped Egypt in its track and prevented them from reaching Tel Aviv in modern Israel’s early day. And it was fought by a small brigade and a few pilots! In modern Israel, especially in the last ten years, Ashdod has grown to be a modern, bustling city with museums, a major hospital and more! There are malls, schools, historical sites, and a mosaic of diverse communities from around the world-Georgia, Morocco, and France just to name a few.
